1. Where are you from?
I was born in Chicago, but we moved to the burbs when I was 2. At the age of 13, I went to Indiana to live at a convent boarding school. After high school, I lived in California, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico. I eventually landed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where I lived for 23 years until I moved to Neenah, WI in ’99 when I married Steve.
2. Where have you been?
I attended Ancilla Domini (Latin for Servant of the Lord) College, UC-Berkley, University of Nevada, and UW-Green Bay. I had only 26 hrs left for a double BS in Psych and Counseling when my kids were killed. That changed the course of my life. I wrote a book during the 1st year of the grieving process (I Climbed a Mountain, under my former name of Kathi Pollard). I also switched majors and took a year of pastoral care classes through Berean University. I’ve also been trained in Cleansing Stream Ministries (Jack Hayford) and have finished several of the requirements for Restoring the Foundation (RTF).
3. Where are you going?
I feel like I’ve always known that the Lord has a call on my life to nurture/shepherd, so I consider it an incredible privilege to be a part of the Pastoral Team at EWC and to be able to use my gifts and talents to serve the dear saints at EWC. It’s a joy to be able to share the responsibilities of shepherding with Dan and Scott, two wonderful brothers in the Lord.
4. What is your favorite movie?
I have two. Chariots of Fire, specifically because of the answer Olympic runner Eric Liddle gives to his Jewish competitor: “When I run, I feel His pleasure.” I understand that feeling. The second is Shadowlands because of the portrayal of God’s grace working the midst of the lives of CS Lewis and his wife – a beautiful love story of a husband and wife’s love for each other, and their love for God.
5. What is your favorite food?
I love a good ol’ fashion pot roast with carrots and mashed potatoes and gravy (must be the Irish in me), topped off with anything chocolate. I totally avoid ALL seafood.
6. What is your favorite verse?
My favorite verse tends to be whatever one the Lord gives me as I’m passing from one “season” of my life into the next, but overall I appreciate Phil. 1:6 – “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Great comfort to know I’m a work in progress!
7. What is one significant experience that shaped you?
Certainly the diagnosis of breast cancer, the collapse of a 22-year marriage, and the deaths of my son, daughter-in-law and grandchild each had a profound impact upon my life, as did my salvation, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and being healed of sickness and delivered from bondages. I don’t believe it’s our circumstances that change/impact us, but rather it’s how we respond to our circumstances that determines who we are becoming. I believe the singular objective of our faith is to be conformed into the image of Jesus. Our God is the greatest economist- He uses both His good, and even the bad meant by the enemy to harm us, to bring us to completion (wholeness). What an AWESOME God we serve.
